1. Introduction; Geographic Scope
Your privacy is important to the Discovery & Legal Technology Association (“Association,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit our website located at www.dlta.legal (the “Site”) or otherwise communicate with us, including by email, and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information collected through any other means, including on any other website operated by a third party.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. In this Privacy Policy, when we talk about “personal information,” we mean any information that is related to an identified or identifiable natural person. If any term in this Privacy Policy is unacceptable to you, please do not use our Site or provide us with any personal information.
The Association is a neutral, non-commercial industry organization formed to promote best practices, innovation, and excellence in the eDiscovery services industry through education, resources, collaboration, and leadership. The Association does not provide eDiscovery services and does not compete with its members.
The Association is based in the United States, and the Site is intended for use by individuals and organizations located in the United States. The Association does not actively target or market to individuals located outside the United States. If you are accessing the Site from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and subject to U.S. laws. By accessing or using the Site, you acknowledge and consent to such processing.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect the following categories of personal information from you:
Business Contact Information: Name, company or organization name, business email address, and job title or role.
Communications: Any information voluntarily included in communications with the Association.
Device and Other Automatically Collected Information: IP address, browsing history, search history, and information regarding pages accessed and how materials are downloaded. For more information, see Section 9 “Cookies and Tracking Technologies” below.
We do not request or collect client lists, pricing information, case-specific data, or other competitively sensitive business information.
3. How We Collect Your Information
We collect limited business contact information when individuals or organizations voluntarily provide it through the Site, including when requesting access to studies, reports, surveys, or other Association materials. We also collect information provided by individuals or organizations when they communicate with us, including by email.
In addition, as with many websites, when you interact with our Site, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect and log certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including details of your visits to our Site (e.g., traffic data, logs, other communication data, and resources that you access and use on our Site), information about your computer, mobile device, and internet connection (including your IP address, operating system, and browser type), and location data, which we collect to ensure you reside in a jurisdiction in which you are eligible for using our Site, to comply with relevant laws, and for fraud prevention purposes.
4. How We Use Information
We use collected information for the following purposes:
To provide our Site and its contents to you;
To fulfill or meet the reason you provided the information (e.g., to respond to your email);
To provide access to Association studies, reports, and research materials;
To communicate regarding Association publications, initiatives, or related educational activities and/or the Site;
To administer Association programs, working groups, and research efforts;
To maintain records related to participation in Association activities;
To monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with the Site;
To comply with the law, and protect or defend our interests or the interests of users of our Site if permitted by law or required to do so by law, court order, or government regulations, or where we believe such action is necessary;
To help maintain the safety, security, and integrity of our Site, services, databases, other technology assets, and our company;
To perform system administration and to monitor the use of our Site; and
Any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information or with your consent.
We do not use personal information for targeted advertising, behavioral profiling, or commercial sales purposes.
5. Sharing of Information with Association Members
With your affirmative consent, the Association may share certain business contact information with its member organizations.
a. Scope of Sharing
If you consent, the Association may share the following information with Association members:
o Name;
o Company name;
o Business email address; and
o Job title or role.
This information may be shared broadly with Association members or with subsets of members involved in specific research initiatives, studies, or working groups.
b. Purpose of Sharing
Contact information is shared solely to:
o Facilitate dialogue and discussion relating to Association studies or research;
o Enable follow‑up communication regarding Association initiatives; and
o Support industry education and collaboration in a non‑commercial context.
Shared information is not intended for marketing, sales outreach, competitive analysis, or solicitation of commercial services by Association members.
c. Member Use Limitations
Association members receiving shared contact information are expected to use it only in connection with Association-related activities and in compliance with applicable privacy and competition laws. The Association does not authorize use of shared information for independent marketing or competitive purposes.
d. Your Choices
Participation in contact information sharing with Association members is voluntary.
You may:
Decline to consent to sharing and still receive Association materials, where applicable;
Withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@dlta.legal;
Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, subject to applicable legal and record‑keeping obligations.
6. Other Information Disclosure
We may also disclose information as follows and as otherwise described at the time of collection:
With service providers, including those that support website hosting, email communications, or administrative operations, solely to perform services on our behalf;
With accountants, auditors, lawyers, and other outside professional advisors to the Association, subject to appropriate contractual obligations of confidentiality;
Where required by law, court order, or subpoena if we believe disclosure is in accordance with, or required by, applicable law or legal process or where necessary to prevent, detect, or prosecute criminal offenses, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of the Association or others; and
With your consent or at your direction.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising/targeted advertising.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or otherwise processed. When determining the retention period, we take into account criteria, such as the type of services requested by or provided to you, the nature and length of our relationship with you, use of our Site, the impact on Site functionality if we delete your personal information, and any applicable statutes of limitation. Information may be retained longer for archival or governance purposes or to comply with law.
8. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information against unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Association uses limited cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate and improve the Site. These may be set by the Association or by third parties operating on our behalf.
a. Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are used to enable core website functionality, such as security, accessibility, and form submissions. These cookies are necessary for the Site to function properly and cannot be disabled through Site settings.
b. Analytics Cookies
The Association may use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are accessed or how materials are downloaded. These analytics:
Collect aggregated, non‑identifying information;
Are used solely to monitor and improve the Site and Association resources; and
Are not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking across other websites.
The Association does not use cookies for targeted advertising or cross‑context behavioral tracking.

If you follow these links or interact with the Association’s social media pages, your activity is subject to the privacy policies and practices of the applicable third-party platform. Third-party cookies or tracking technologies may be used by those platforms in accordance with their own privacy policies and practices. The Association does not control and is not responsible for third-party tracking practices or for how such platforms collect, use, or process personal information.
The Site may also include links to the websites or social media pages of Association members. These links are provided for informational purposes only. The Association does not control, endorse, or assume responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or activities of member websites or social media platforms.
11. Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for use by business professionals and organizations. It is not directed to children under the age of 13, and the Association does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or 16 where applicable by law).
If the Association becomes aware that personal information has been collected from a child under 13 (or 16 where applicable by law) without appropriate authorization, it will take reasonable steps to delete such information.
If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 13 (or 16, where applicable) has provided personal information to us, please contact us using the methods described in Section 13 “Contact Us,” and we will endeavor to delete that information from our databases.
12. Changes to This Policy
The Association may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date above indicates when changes were made and became effective. Continued use of the Site after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
